Images are used to portray a different meaning than what may be given in the image. For instance, I saw an image of four men facing a window, and each one had a different stance or view. One of the men was standing on three books on each foot, but he was just barely looking out the window as if he was standing eye and eye with the window sill. The second man is standing on stacks of money, three stacks under each foot. However his view out the window wasn’t clear because he was too high and saw above the window. The next man isn’t standing on anything and is staring at a wall. And lastly, the fourth man has a clear view of the window as he stands on three books under his left foot, and three stacks of money under the other. This image was interesting to me because it’s all about perception, but what you work for makes you see the bigger picture in life. When you have too much money, your picture may not be clear; When you have nothing you don’t see the picture at all. However, when it is balanced, the bigger picture is very clear.
Images are used to create a conversation especially in a classroom. Images can be seen in numerous different ways making it a conversation starter among the classroom. It can teach a topic because an image can be seen by someone and create a lesson or a teachable moment that can’t be escaped now because an image is powerful. Imagery is memorable, and a useful tool when learning to recognize/read words. With a teacher present students are able to make connections, perhaps discover deeper meaning/ new perspectives/ etc. through open classroom discussions and sharing ideas together with other ideas. The greatest benefit of teaching with an image is that it is more powerful and memorable than another lecture. Images can be put in the back of their mind, but when an associated word is said the image can come back into color.
